Connected to the international AFTN network, the system performs analysis of received messages, updates its database and provides information to users, both through automatic information transmission and through specific requests. AMET handles messages such as METAR, TAF, SIGMET, AIRMET, among others.

Access to its databank is carried out by the AFTN network users or the specific meteorological networks. AMET is installed and in operation at the Regional Area Forecast Center (CRPA) of Brasilia, Brazil.
